What a kidder.

Page 56, What a kidder.
Sterling is still sort of working on the humor thing. By the way, in case you forgot, Sterling's father is Booth Faraday. I guess that means Booth must be quite the kidder.

The shocking truth

At last, the shocking truth about sterling.

That thing you do

Sterling! A force of nature. I've temporarily given up having Sterling speak in a different font. All the fonts I liked were too hard to read. I'm thinking of putting a gray band inside his word balloons to illustrate the voice.
Also the wording is so awkward. That's what I get for rewriting sections of already written script at 1:00 am.
It's not wretched mind you, just a few words here and there need changing. (I know what I'm doing tonight.) Read this now- then come back later to see the new improved version and compare.... I dare you.
Corrections made. Woo

it's up!

I've been playing with the style again. I draw and nothing looks right. Then I wind up using the old style.
I used a different font for Sterling, to try and show he has a deep gravelly voice. I hope it worked. I'm not too  happy with it. I'll keep looking for a font that is right.
Ignore the change in perspective in panel two. She doesn't suddenly change sizes, that's just me, messing up.

Halloween pencil sketch

I decided to scribble up a holiday Adorable Desolation in colored pencil. The Halloween strip I had planned would not work because it featured characters I have yet to introduce.
A friend also pointed out it also featured a blatant spoiler! That's thinking ahead.
I have removed this comic from the comic archive and I will be moving it to the extras section!

Do me a favor

Do me a favor. Oh, the excitement is hard to contain. Sterling is about to make his entrance.
I've been tweaking and playing with my drawings and I'm just never happy. I'll have to keep drawing.
By the way, yes that is wedding ring on Izzy's finger. The reason you may not have seen or noticed it before is because, this is the first time his left hand is clearly visible. I've been paying attention to that little detail. Don't get used to it.

An actual incident

So, now the big five-oh is passed by and is now in the past.
Introducing page 51.
Something (sort of, but not really) like this incident actually happened to me. I was watching a taped autopsy, and after the "Y" incision and just as the pathologist was cutting through the ribs to crack open the chest, I began to drool and crave ribs. I ate yummy yummy ribs that night- and enjoyed every drippy sauce covered bite.
By the way, if you were wondering about the guy in the autopsy I was watching? He was shot, not squished into a wall.

The confusion (continues) grows

49 is up and running. I like Shopclerk's expression in panel six.

A good excuse

Remember he forgot the mug? Only think how she'd react to a mug featuring kittens sleeping in a basket of flowers.

[Edit] A friend from work suggested the only way to make that mug more gaggy than it already is, is if the kittens are... get this... wearing BUNNY EARS asleep in the basket, the image I have in my mind makes my teeth hurt.

Strip 48 is now up. I wonder if I should do something when the strip hits 50? That's half a hundred you know!

The lesser "oh"

This page took forever. I have trouble drawing motion. I drew pages of punches. I think the punching motion I settled on came out pretty good.

Time to go

I'm trying a new font, this is "mighty zeo" I kind of like it. Feel free to let me know what you think.
In case you couldn't tell Izzy is tall, real tall.

Mall Girl Redux

I did a cute panel of the mall girl (aka: the pretty redhead) and then I cut it out of the strip. Why you might ask? I got scared someone might think the pretty redhead appeared to be breaking the 4th wall. She's not, she's simply looking over her shoulder at Shopclerk and thinking to herself. I guess I should make something clear; except for a few (non-canon) special cases, any scene that looks like the 4th wall is breaking or cracking or slipping in any way, is completely due to my inability to draw things and people from different angles.
In the story proper, the 4th wall always remains intact. Thank you

Confession

Number 43, Confession
It seems to be taking longer and longer to color these things.
I'm going to be playing with my technique. I may also be working on my anatomy drawing. Don't be surprised if people and things in the strip starting changing styles. It may take a while to settle on a style that works for me

At the mall

Page 42: At the mall
my dislike of drawing backgrounds makes this mall scene harder than it should be.
But look 42 pages!

At last, an update. It's about time.

setting up the new 'puter

I've been trying to get all my old stuff onto the new 'puter and for some reason the color in gimp is being evil. I color Girl's hair light brown and it shows up bright pink, I try again and it shows GREEN! I've finally fixed it, but this is whole mess is taking longer to fix than I thought it would. AND I have less time this past coupla' weeks, because I have other projects due. Short version? It's on the way.

It's official

It's official, my old computer which has been stuttering crashing and freezing has bit the big one. It's pushing up daisies. It's kicked the bucket. It is a "late" computer. What a great excuse to buy a new one! Which I now have weeee! All shiny and pretty! Adorable Desolation will be up a day or two late. Despite the best efforts of my evil old computer...

A word about Izzy

I've been waiting since November to introduce Izzy to the strip. My computer's been crashing and freezing ever since I started working on the Izzy strips... mmmmm.
My computer will not win! The strip shall be made, it's just taking longer than I thought.

Blogger now on Adorable Desolation!

I've put an iframe on my comic linked to my blogger site, it should make my commenting on individual strips easy-peasy, Blogger also has a self contained commenting system. I like comments.

Friday's here, Izzy!

Friday: The waiting is the hardest part

I'm going to try updating Fridays for a while. Izzy's here!

scanner

Ha Ha Ha! finally I'm getting a scanner! No more taking a photograph of my pencil sketch and then sending it to the computer. This should make the comic easier to get ready. I hope.

my pog's been approved

My ad pog's been approved! I've already seen it on the comic genesis front page!
Now I'm working on a "newsbox" ad.
THE Weasel has come up with swell tagline.

Pogs on ComicGenesis

On my webcomic's host's home page, there are small buttons called "pogs" designed to entice visiters to try a comic.
I submitted this advertisement pog to comic genesis, since then I decided to start doing things in color- so I made a new pog:
As you can see, it's pretty close to old pog - but it features more hair and it's in color. I'm not sure this is the final product - but it has been submitted. we shall see.

coloring adorable desolation

I've been working on that aliasing problem, coloring takes so long but it looks so much better in color. Soon, soon I'll see about shading - but first things first.

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

My Genchan looks really dumpy when she's fitted to the right size template do-over!

I made coffee

The ambiguous thank you. the color looks pretty good. I've been reading a book on coloring comics digitally and I've learned some stuff. Now I need to pick up speed

Gen Chan

This is my version of GenChan, the comic genesis website mascot. I think she came out pretty good and she was great practice learning shadows. I haven't put the site logo on her yet because the zip file containing it won't open. I'll grab the logo off of something and add it soon.

Adorable Desolation in color!

I've been playing with the color of my comic in gimp, and decided what the heck, the stuff I've done isn't great- but color is nice. so it's up. It'll keep getting better as I practice.
